Anti-Ragging Cell

All students must note that ragging inside/outside the college is a cognizable offence.

Ragging in and out of the College Campus/roads/approaches leading to it is found indulging in ragging directly or indirectly, the college authorities shall be obliged under rule 22, 17(a) (b) (c) of H.P. University ordinance to expel the guilty student from the college and initiate legal action. Ragging means the following :

" Ragging includes any type of physical or mental torture inflicted by any individual or group, whether by words spoken or written or by any act which has the effect of teasing, treating or handling with rudeness any other student, including in rowdy or undisciplined activities which causes or is likely to cause annoyance, hardship or psychological harm or to raise fear or apprehension thereof in a fresher or a junior student or asking the student to do any act or perform something which such student will not in ordinary cause and which has the effect of or generating a sense of shame or embarrassment to adversely affect the physique or psyche of a fresher or a junior student which creates an apprehension in the mind of the person that he/she can not peruse his/her studies free from any mental disturbance or torture created thereby any person who aids or abets such action shall be guilty of such ragging ".

Punishable Ingredients of Ragging

  •  Abetment to ragging,
  •  Criminal conspiracy to rag,
  •  Unlawful assembly and rioting while ragging,
  •  Public nuisance created during ragging,
  •  Violation of decency during ragging,
  •  Injury to the body, causing hurt or grievous hurt,
  •  Wrongful restraint,
  •  Wrongful confinement,
  •  Use of criminal force,
  •  Assault as well as sexual offences or unnatural offences,
  •  Extortion,
  •  Criminal trespass,
  •  Offences against the victim,
  •  Physical or offences following the definition of “Ragging”.

Any student found involved in ragging in any form whatsoever will be punished appropriately which may include :

  •  Imprisonment, fine or both
  •  Expulsion from the college
  •  Suspension from the classes
  •  Withholding scholarship or other benefits
  •  Fine with a public apology
  •  Debarring from representation in events.

Ragging is a Reprehensible Act under Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging) Ordinance - 2009
